Wonderful to stop by RNZ today to chat with the brilliant Anna Thomas about a few things to keep an eye on in business as we head into 2026.
We covered the economy, confidence, elections, infrastructure - and a few New Zealand companies doing world-leading things.
Also: a rare moment of live radio tension when I asked to do a birthday shout-out (apparently that’s not standard RNZ protocol!).

2025 marked another step forward for New Zealand’s venture ecosystem, with momentum building across both capital and capability.

Together with founders, fund managers and ecosystem partners, we saw continued investment momentum, new fund commitments and strong outcomes across the portfolio.

As we reflect on the year, we thank the people behind the progress and look ahead to 2026 with optimism for what’s next.

With the Nobel Prize award ceremony in Stockholm this week, we’re celebrating the prize in chemistry!

Congratulations to Susumu Kitagawa (University of Kyoto, Japan), Richard Robson (University of Melbourne, Australia), and Omar Yaghi (UC Berkeley, USA) for their incredible research, developing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs).

This achievement is particularly exciting for us, with our entire company built on the foundation of this Nobel-winning research. Captivate’s very own MOF material is a pathway to cost-effective carbon capture and global emissions reduction. We are proud to be part of the work that is moving this world-class science from the lab to commercial deployment!

Read our article to learn more about our MOF commercialisation in New Zealand.
